Service System Certificate Training
THE ASD PARTNERSHIP IS AT AN EXCITING AND CRITICAL JUNCTION AS WE BEGIN THE FIRST STEPS TOWARDS IMPROVING THE SYSTEM OF SUPPORTS FOR PEOPLE WITH AN ASD AND THEIR FAMILIES.
In order to ensure that the system changes inherent in this training are consistent across all the York ASD Partners who have signed the Partnership Memorandum of Understanding please ensure that all relevant staff are identified, notified and registered to attend the series.
This training is designated as MANDATORY for all employees who perform an intake, screening, first contact role and other direct support staff who may refer or connect families with other services providers as part of their work.
Employees at other York Region Service providers performing these roles are welcomed and encouraged to attend in order to facilitate a consistent intake and referral experience across York Region.
This wonderful educational opportunity has been made available free of charge to all York Region agencies thanks to a grant from Autism Speaks Canada.
Eight educational modules have been developed by the Professional Development Working Group and will be delivered between June, 2012 and January, 2013. The target audience for this training is our intake and direct support employees in order to ensure that families experience knowledgeable, coordinated and consistent access to the service system in York Region. Employees are offered a choice of two dates for each session to accommodate busy schedules.
The topics include:
- An introduction to ASD
- An overview of Evidenced Based Practice for ASD
- ASD & Co-morbid Mental Health issues
- Working with Parents of Children and Adults with an ASD
- The York Region ASD Service System
- Single Plans of Care and the Electronic Record use
- Service navigation and electronic data-base orientation
- Pulling it all together for people with an ASD and their families.

Module # 1, An Introduction to ASD, provides a valuable foundation of knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Module #1 is optional based upon your current knowledge of ASD.

A York Region ASD Systems Training Certificate will be awarded to participants who complete all of these modules.

Capacity is limited to 50 participants per session. Each session will be filled on a first come first served basis.
